In February 2026 the electric Steam Train received a notable footnote. Although Aagje had been introduced as a battery-powered locomotive, the train was running on darker days with a diesel generator attached to the last carriage. Efteling explained that the issue involved the carriage lights: connecting them to the locomotive's battery had caused complications. The generator was hidden as a themed chest, but the substance of the news was clear. The train was not fully emission-free at that moment. For Station de Oost and the rest of the route, the guest experience could continue, yet the sustainable conversion still had technical loose ends. Efteling wanted to gain more experience with Aagje before deciding how quickly Trijntje and Moortje should follow the same transformation.

At the start of 2026 it became clear that Aagje's return did not mean the electric Steam Train was running flawlessly. During cold winter days the locomotive stopped several times during rides, after which staff had to help passengers out of the carriages. For guests at Station de Oost this touched the core of the attraction: the train is only useful if it can reliably run between the stations. Efteling confirmed that the electric locomotive had suffered several malfunctions, but the exact cause was not yet known. The park and its supplier were investigating the issue together. Against the background of the previous months-long outage, this was a significant update for fans and park watchers. It showed that the move from steam to battery power was not only a sustainability story, but also a technical learning process affecting the daily guest experience.

In November 2025 there was encouraging news after a long technical pause: Aagje, the electric locomotive of the Efteling Steam Train Company, was running again. Efteling confirmed that the train had been operational again since Sunday 23 November, after test runs had taken place without complications. For Station de Oost this meant the route could once more benefit from the converted locomotive that had been presented in May as a symbol of sustainable heritage. The outage had lasted for months and forced the park to rely on the two locomotives that had not yet been electrified. The recovery also highlighted the hidden engineering behind the project: the battery pack, electronics and motors are housed in the tender behind the locomotive, with charging done in the workshop. It showed how new this modernisation still was.
