In April 2023, The Big One faced another high-profile evacuation at height. A train was stopped on the chain lift because of strong winds. Riders then had to walk down the evacuation stairs under staff supervision. The weather made the situation more uncomfortable: an eyewitness described it as cold, rainy and very windy.

Nobody was injured, but images of the descent became national news in the United Kingdom. That happens quickly with The Big One. Its lift hill is highly visible and the coaster sits directly by the coast, where wind can be a major operating factor. The ride stayed closed for the rest of the day.

For visitors, the incident underlined that tall coasters are sensitive to weather, especially in a seaside location such as Blackpool. For fans, the story came on top of the ride's continuing renovation, with several track sections having recently been replaced. Together, those developments show the double reality of The Big One: it is being preserved as an icon, but its scale and location make it an attraction that requires constant operational attention.

In February 2023, Blackpool Pleasure Beach showed that the renovation of The Big One was still continuing. New track sections were being installed on Britain's tallest coaster. According to the park, the work involved 103 metres of rail with a total weight of 23 tonnes. A large crane was needed for the operation, making the maintenance effort visually impressive as well.

The new pieces again came through a partnership with Taziker Industrial from Chorley. The park stressed that around twenty percent of the coaster's rail had now been replaced and that the process remained an ongoing project. That made clear that The Big One's maintenance was not a short repair, but a multi-year investment in the ride's lifespan.

For visitors, this matters because a coaster of this age and size requires serious upkeep while still serving as a major draw for the park. For fans, the story also revived discussion about the ride's famous statistics. The park often refers to height measured from sea level, while enthusiasts focus on the physical structure. That debate is part of what keeps The Big One almost mythical in British coaster history.

The renovation of The Big One gained a striking public-facing side in January 2022. Blackpool Pleasure Beach decided to sell old parts of the famous coaster. Fans could buy stairs and walkways, but also huge pieces of rail that had been removed during earlier renovation work.

Prices ranged from 150 to 450 pounds for smaller items. For larger track pieces, interested buyers could contact the park to discuss a specific price and preferred length. Where possible, the rail could even be cut to size. In that way, technical maintenance became something tangible: a chance for fans to own a physical piece of a British coaster legend.

That mattered because The Big One is more than just another ride. Opened in 1994, built by Arrow Dynamics and instantly recognisable on the Blackpool skyline, it carries real emotional weight for coaster enthusiasts. By selling the old parts as memorabilia rather than simply removing them from sight, the park acknowledged that value. For regular visitors, the story also confirmed that renovation was continuing and that the park remained willing to invest in the ride's lifespan.
