AtmosFear gets a temporary VR version
Liseberg temporarily added VR headsets to AtmosFear, turning the 116-metre drop tower into a science-fiction experience. The headset was free and optional, while the classic ride remained available.

In 2022, Liseberg gave AtmosFear a temporary new layer. From the season opening on 23 April, guests could choose AtmosFear VR, a version of the 116-metre drop tower fitted with virtual-reality headsets. The climb and plunge became a science-fiction ride through wormholes, galaxies and encounters with alien life. The original ride stayed in place, and the VR option was free and optional.
Liseberg worked with VR Coaster and Quarryfold Studios on the project. The park said the film was closely synchronised with the tower's physical movement, so the images and the real free fall would reinforce each other. That made the change stand out: VR had become familiar on roller coasters, but a drop tower offers a shorter, sharper and more vertical thrill. Liseberg presented the temporary version as a rare and technically advanced VR drop-tower experience.
For visitors, the update meant that AtmosFear, one of Liseberg's signature thrill rides since 2011, could feel new without losing its original identity. The timing also mattered. With wooden coaster Balder closed for repairs, Liseberg used an existing landmark to give fans something fresh to try at the start of the season.
