On 23 June 2022, Wiener Wellenflieger at Europa-Park unexpectedly took on a watery role. On a hot day that reached 32 degrees Celsius, the fountains around the wave swinger rose so high that riders ended the trip soaked, even though the attraction is normally meant to be a dry ride.
Video footage showed the jets shooting up several times during the two-and-a-half-minute cycle and reaching the suspended seats. What might have looked like a playful heatwave setting was not a planned summer effect, according to Looopings, but a technical fault. Europa-Park therefore had no plans to use the fountains in that way more often.
For guests, the incident created a memorable contrast. A classic swing ride in the Austrian themed area briefly behaved like an accidental splash attraction during a very warm afternoon.
