Photo cloth hides works around Diorama’s building
During the Carrousel Palace renovation, Efteling installed a huge printed cloth to hide the exposed facade structure. It helped keep the route to Diorama and the Stoomcarrousel, and the atmosphere of the historic complex, presentable during the lengthy works.

The Carrousel Palace renovation received a striking guest-facing solution in April 2023. After much of the historic facade had been dismantled, Efteling installed a huge printed cloth showing the building’s usual appearance. It prevented guests from looking at a bare wooden structure throughout the summer while restoration continued behind it.
For Diorama and the Stoomcarrousel, this was more than decorative screening. According to Looopings, both attractions remained accessible and operational, but visitors still passed through a construction environment. The appearance of the Carrousel Palace is part of the approach to these classic indoor attractions. By placing the normal facade back as an image, the park tried to preserve the atmosphere around the building while the real exterior was being restored.
The planning showed that this was a long intervention: an Efteling spokesperson had earlier indicated that the project was expected to run until the end of October. The photo cloth shows how modern theme park maintenance is not only about technique and safety, but also about presentation. Even when a building stays open, the route toward it still needs to feel like Efteling rather than an ordinary work site.
