A breakdown on Bengal Rapid River produced a striking image in August 2016. Two rafts became stuck in the final bend of the rapid river, quickly creating a queue behind the blockage. A staff member stopped the ride with an emergency shutdown. When the water level dropped, part of the front raft lifted upwards, making the boat look as if it was about to fold in half.

According to the report, no guests were sitting in the raised compartment at that moment. Bellewaerde said through a spokesperson that riders had not been in danger and that the attraction was back in operation after roughly 45 minutes. The incident therefore remained short-lived, but unusually visible.

For visitors and fans, the photo was the remarkable part. A rapid river normally feels sturdy and controlled, yet this moment showed how water level, raft position and safety procedures can combine into a strange scene. In the history of Bengal Rapid River, it became a small but memorable example of the technical sensitivity that can come with older water rides.

The condition of Bengal Rapid River became a public talking point in spring 2016. Looopings showed that the rapid river in Bellewaerde's India area had visibly deteriorated: walls were dirty, themed pieces were crumbling and vegetation had started to take over parts of the ride. Technical equipment was also visible along the course, while the lift towards the station had reportedly been unreliable for some time.

Bellewaerde admitted that the attraction needed freshening up. A spokesperson said improvement work had been planned, but that the park was waiting on a partner that had not delivered as expected. As a result, visitors saw the wear and tear for longer than intended.

For fans, the story underlined how demanding older water rides can be to maintain. Bengal Rapid River was already nearly three decades old at the time and, with its 451-metre Vekoma layout, had become a familiar Bellewaerde landmark. That history made the neglected look stand out even more: the ride was still part of the park's identity, but its theming and presentation were clearly asking for attention.
