MAXIMUS - The Guardian’s Flight

In August 2023, MAXIMUS unexpectedly made news because of an incident at the boarding check. According to Looopings, a 30-year-old father became furious when his child turned out to be too short for the new wing coaster. He kicked and punched a 22-year-old employee, who was lightly injured and taken to hospital. Police attended the scene and imposed a deposit because the suspect had no fixed address. For visitors and editors, the most relevant part is the context around access rules. Legoland stressed that height restrictions are not arbitrary, but exist for guest safety. MAXIMUS has a minimum height of 120 centimetres, shown on information boards and park maps. According to the park, such requirements are set by manufacturers and the TÜV inspection body. The incident shows that even a family-friendly coaster has strict operating limits: the ride is more accessible than major thrill coasters, but safety remains decisive for who may board.

At the start of the 2023 season, MAXIMUS opened to guests. Looopings described how Legoland Germany positioned the new wing coaster as a Lego-style flying experience, while clearly avoiding the scale of an extreme thrill ride. The coaster is 17 metres high, 457 metres long and reaches 54 kilometres per hour. That makes it much gentler than major wing coasters such as Fenix at Toverland, although Maximus still includes two inversions. For the park, the opening was historic. It was Legoland Germanys fourth coaster, its first new rollercoaster since 2003 and the first wing coaster ever built in a Legoland park. MAXIMUS became part of a 15 million euro Lego Mythica area with Fire and Ice Towers, Mythica CreaZone and LavaLand. The train was styled as a Lego model of the flying white lion Maximus. For visitors, the result was unusual: a real B&M coaster presented as an accessible family attraction.

In January 2023, the identity of Legoland Germanys new coaster finally came into focus. The park revealed the name Maximus - Der Flug des Wächters and showed the train design: a mythical Lego figure with seats positioned next to the rail. That made the project much easier for fans and families to picture. The specifications remained deliberately family-friendly. Maximus would be 17 metres high, 457 metres long and reach 54 kilometres per hour, with a chain lift, sharp turns, spirals and two inversions. The minimum height was set at 120 centimetres. The Lego Mythica setting was just as important. Maximus refers to a celestial lion from the product line, while the area would also include Fire and Ice Towers, Mythica CreaZone, LavaLand and fourteen new Lego creatures. The news made clear that Legoland was adding a full coaster, but one carefully tuned to remain part of the Lego family experience.
