Inclusive play forest in Ruigrijk where young children can try out the big attractions in their own way.
Nest! was built as a play area for children who are not yet able to do everything else in Ruigrijk, but still want to feel the same adventurous atmosphere. The play equipment nods to the surrounding rides and is designed so children with and without disabilities can play together.
A minimum height of 0 cm means there is no numeric minimum for the play forest as a whole. Nest! was designed as an inclusive play forest for children with and without visible disabilities and opened on 31 May 2021.
The playground feels like a miniature Ruigrijk: dragon elements, ship parts and nods to major rides are woven in as if children had built their own adventure world.
At the heart of Nest! is the idea that children should not be separated by what they can or cannot do. Routes, surfaces and play elements were therefore designed with sightlines and accessibility in mind.
The playground replaced Polka Marina and gave young visitors in Ruigrijk a place of their own among the larger thrill rides.
