Photo: refurbished pedal trains on their way to Efteling
Efteling refurbished the classic pedal trains of Kinderspoor. The old vehicles received fresh paintwork, new benches and new wheels while the attraction stayed available in phases.
More context
In March 2025, it became clear that Efteling was investing again in the nostalgic Kinderspoor. A sharp-eyed road user spotted a load of refurbished pedal trains heading toward Kaatsheuvel, after which the park confirmed that older vehicles had been thoroughly restored. The trains were sandblasted and repainted, and they received new benches and wheels.
For guests, the important detail was that the work was carried out in phases. That allowed Kinderspoor to remain part of the park offering while the vehicles were being refreshed behind the scenes. The source also made clear that the project was still ongoing at the time and that some locomotives still needed final finishing work.
The news fits neatly into the long life of this quiet family ride. The current Kinderspoor opened in 2000 in an old-Dutch landscape, but pedal trains have been part of Efteling since the 1950s. By restoring the vehicles rather than replacing the character of the ride, the park preserved a modest but recognisable piece of its family and Anton Pieck heritage.
