In September 2018, Disneyland Paris revealed how much work had gone into the Mad Hatter's Tea Cups refurbishment. The park described it as the ride's biggest overhaul since opening in 1992. Nine teams were involved, working not only on the visible teacups, but also on the roof, lighting, scenery, queue and surrounding area.
For visitors, the improvements were mainly in the details that create atmosphere. LED lighting was added to the roof, allowing colourful effects after sunset that can vary by season. Sixty lanterns above the spinning cups were restored and treated, the cups themselves were removed one by one for repainting, and the queue received permanent Alice in Wonderland-style railings. Floors, oversized leaves and other scenic pieces were cleaned or restored as well. The result anchored a simple spinning classic more firmly in Fantasyland's visual world. The refurbishment shows how Disney uses small family rides to maintain thematic continuity and strengthen the evening experience.
