More context
This article marks the end of Galactica's most distinctive addition. In 2019 Alton Towers decided to remove the VR headsets completely, after the number of trains using them had already been reduced the previous year. The attraction kept the Galactica name and its futuristic setting, but the ride experience shifted back toward the physical flying coaster itself. For visitors, this meant less dependence on headsets, fewer issues around hygiene, fit and technical handling, and likely smoother capacity. Looopings placed the decision within a wider European trend: several parks were stepping away from VR on roller coasters after complaints, operational problems or disappointing feedback. Historically, the article is important because the 2016 transformation from Air to Galactica had leaned heavily on the VR promise. Three years later, the themed identity remained, while the technology that was meant to set the concept apart was abandoned. Galactica therefore gained a second life as a more traditional flying coaster in Forbidden Valley.
