September is the handover month. Summer holiday is over in the Netherlands and Belgium, autumn half-term does not start until October, and parks switch mode. Some stay open every day. Others drop back to weekends, plus the odd Thursday or Friday. Miss that, and you will find Walibi shut on a Thursday while Efteling is still running until 18:00.

The Netherlands: two parks every day, Walibi at weekends
Efteling: year-round, just shorter
Efteling is open every day in September. Weekdays until 18:00, weekends until 20:00. That is no longer a summer evening: you lose two hours versus peak weeks. Check Efteling opening hours if you want Symbolica, Python and a show in one day; 18:00 is tighter than it feels.
A September weekday is often the smarter Efteling day: schools are back, summer holiday is over. Still watch the live wait times and planning tips — a sunny Saturday until 20:00 still pulls families.
Toverland: also every day, slightly earlier close
Toverland stays daily in September. Weekdays until 17:30, weekends until 18:00. That is the shortest day of the three big Dutch parks on W8baan. If you want Troy, Fēnix and Expedition Zork, arrive early. See Toverland hours and wait times.
Walibi Holland: weekend park, with two exceptions
Walibi Holland is not open on weekdays in September, except two Fridays:
- Friday 4 September: 10:00–17:00
- Saturday and Sunday: 10:00–18:00, all four weekends
- Friday 18 September: 10:00–17:00
- Friday 11 and 25 September: closed
Monday to Thursday: closed. Planning Goliath or Untamed? Aim for Saturday or Sunday, or those two Fridays. The Walibi calendar is not a nice extra here — it is the condition.
Belgium: Plopsaland almost daily, the rest at weekends
Plopsaland: almost the whole month, one closed Sunday
Plopsaland is Belgium’s September answer to Efteling and Toverland: open almost every day. Weekdays until 17:00, weekends until 18:00.
Exception: Sunday 20 September is officially closed. That is the only closed day this month on our calendar. Do not miss it if you are driving from Zeeland or West Flanders on a Sunday. Otherwise: Plopsaland hours and wait times.
Walibi Belgium: Saturday and Sunday only
Walibi Belgium drops back to classic late season: weekends only, 10:00–18:00. No extra Friday on our calendar. Kondaa and Pulsar on Saturday or Sunday, or wait for a later holiday. See Walibi Belgium hours.
Bellewaerde: weekends, plus Friday 25 September
Bellewaerde follows Walibi Belgium, with one extra day: Friday 25 September until 17:00. The other Fridays are closed. Weekends 10:00–18:00. Useful if you want Wakala without Saturday crowds — if that Friday fits. Bellewaerde hours.
Bobbejaanland: Thursday is the extra day
Bobbejaanland is different: not Friday, Thursday. Our calendar shows these days as open:
- Thursday 3, 10, 17 and 24 September, 10:00–17:00
- Saturday 5, 12 and 19 September, 10:00–18:00
- Sunday 6, 20 and 27 September, 10:00–18:00
We do not yet have hours for Sunday 13 September or Saturday 26 September. Do not assume the park is open; check the Bobbejaanland calendar the day before. A September Thursday is a real Bobbejaanland window: schools are in, the park is open, queues are often milder than at the weekend.
Nearby: Germany and Paris keep running longer
Not every park in the region falls back to weekends. That is why September still works for a slightly longer drive.
- Phantasialand: every day, usually 09:00–18:00. Hours, wait times.
- Europa-Park: every day, usually 09:00–18:00. Hotel guests get extra morning hours. Hours.
- Disneyland Paris and Disney Adventure World: every day, 09:30 to 21:00, weekends until 22:00. Still an evening park, unlike the Benelux. Disney hours.
- Heide Park: Tuesday to Sunday, closed Mondays. Usually 10:00–17:00, weekends until 18:00. Saturday 19 and 26 September later: 12:00–21:00.
- Movie Park Germany: mainly Thursday to Sunday. Later hours at the end of September (Sat 26 until 22:00, Sun 27 until 21:00).
- Parc Astérix: Wednesday plus weekend; Monday, Thursday and Friday usually closed. Weekends until 19:00.
In parts of Germany the summer holiday still runs into early September. After that it is school time there too, until autumn break. The Netherlands and Belgium have no school holiday in September; autumn half-term starts in the Netherlands around 10–18 or 17–25 October, in Belgium from 19 October.
How to plan a September day
- Weekdays in the Benelux = Efteling, Toverland or Plopsaland. Walibi, Bellewaerde and Bobbejaanland are usually closed.
- Weekend = choice. The seasonal parks open too. Expect shorter days than July: 17:00 or 18:00 is normal, not 20:00 or 22:00.
- Efteling weekends until 20:00 are the Benelux evening exception. Disneyland Paris goes later still.
- Bobbejaanland on Thursday is the quiet extra. Walibi Holland only on Friday 4 and 18.
- Check the day itself. Open opening hours by date and wait times. Rides can close before the park does.
September still feels like late summer, but the calendar is already off-season. Accept that, and you often get a calmer park day than in August — provided the park is open at all.
